I have 2 IBM T55 LCD TFT monitors. Each has a pure digital input -- these pre-date analog inputs, and the cables I have for them require the use of DVI-D output from video cards (not DVI-I; not DVI-A). I need two cards: - an AGP card with a DVI-D output - A PCI card with DVI-D output So that I can do multi-mon with my PC. Please point me to low-end to medium-end video cards (specific models). Thanks! |

Hello, It's been difficult finding details about whether the cards I've been looking at are "DVI-D" and not "DVI-I". I believe the difference lies in the cables and not the cards, although I could be wrong. When shopping for a cable, look for "DVI-I", as it will fit both styles of adapters. You may also notice that the cables are "single link" and "dual link". Dual link cables are capable of resolutions greater than 1600x1200, and as such are not necessarily better for current generations of video cards. I would also consider getting a dual dvi agp card instead of 2 seperate cards. I like the nvidia and matrox cards. If you'd like some suggestions, please ask. HTH -Ted |

The card has to generate a digital signal to drive a digital monitor (which the T55s are). I'm just not finding documentation on what kind of connectors the cards (matrox, nvidia, etc.) actually use. See the following regarding connectors: http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/DVI_monitor_cables.html (scroll down) |
