I need to find a free or inexpensive database containing the companies
listed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The SEC
website has all of the information but can only be viewed one company
at a time. I provide a service to help them file their corporate
documents electronically (see www.edgarsec.com), and would like to
contact them to increase my business. I have found sgalists.com but
would like to find others, preferably a gov't site that offers it for
free. I'm looking for company name, address, telephone number and fax
number. An e-mail address would be good but not necessary.

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

edgarsec-ga,

As a frequent user of EDGAR, I appreciate how easy it is to get
spoiled over information access...a list like the one you're asking
for should be readily available.

However, if it's out there, it's not showing up in my searches, at
least not in any no-cost/low-cost sort of way.

Have you considered filing a Freedom of Information Act request with the SEC?

If you're lucky, they very well may be able to provide you a
custom-tailored electronic file with the information you need. They
may even provide it for free.

There's no guarantee that a FOIA request will produce results, but
it's certainly worth a try. I've done a lot of FOIA's in my time, and
have often been pleasantly surprised at the wealth of information that
results.

Let me know what you think.

Edgarsec --

You do realize that there is a private company that provides the data
services for the SEC? You might be best-served by contacting them.

Best regards,

Sorry for the delayed response, first time using this system so wasn't
sure how to respond to you directly:

Hi pafalafa,

Thanks for the advice, I haven't FOI'ed before so will figure out how
to go about it, thanks. Sounds like a way that I may be able to
secure the information.

Hi Omnivorous,

I will try and track down the private service provide for the Edgar information.

Best regards,
