I am looking to gather infomation moving companies. Specifically, I am looking for how to research a company to see what complaints they have against them and if there is a "movers checklist" to ensure the credibility of the moving companies. If there is a governmental website with tips, that would be good to know also. Thanks. | |

Dear CCK, There isn't a Federal governmental body that centralises everything to do with movers. However, some states (for example: California: <http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/static/industry/transportation/movers/> allocate pages to the investigations against movers); and in any case, Better Business Bureaus usually have lots of information on the subject. In the Federal level, see: What Happens When You Move? <http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/factsfigs/moving.htm> Here is a checklist for moving and in that, also in checking moving companies: Moving Tips - Table of Contents <http://www.2c.com/wb_hrpages/hr_gen_moving.html> Another source AARP's "Sites to See: Finding Reputable Moving Companies" <http://www.aarp.org/bulletin/consumer/Articles/a2003-08-28-moving_sites.html> I hope this answers your question. Please contact me if you need any clarifications on this answer before you rate it. Search strategy: "better business" "moving companies" site:gov "moving companies" |
