I am looking for information on forts the Germans built in major
cities towards the end of World war 2. I think they housed tanks,
supllies, aa guns, etc.

These forts were like large castles placed in the major factory cities
of Germany. They were built to with stand bombardments. I think?

These German forts were on actual buildling built up to many stories
and made to serve many functions. Such as hospital, garage, supply
depot, bomb sheltar, aa gun garrison. They stood many stories and
were built very solid. I saw something on the History Channel about
them some 5 years ago, but have never heard anything else.

Hello again Paul Sepp,
Where were these forts located specifically? Were they forts in cities
the German homeland, meant for defense, or forts in cities conquered
territory?

The forts were built in the homeland in the big factory cities.

Hello Paulsepp,
I noticed this question had been left a while, and I came back now
after doing some searches. It was tricky to look for the information,
but I have found some pages describing some German fortresses in WW2,
such as the Atlantik-Wall, Siegfried Line, and Oder-Warte-Bogen. Some
of the resources I have found so far are in other languages, like
German. There are others in English, though I'm not sure if they refer
to the forts in cities as you say. There is a list of links to them in
a web page, if you're interested. I also found mention of a book about
German fortifications. Perhaps you are looking for secret German
supply bunkers in the major cities which may not really be forts. I
will see if I can dig up something on those.

Is it the Festung policy you have in mind?

One of the cities declared "Festung" was Breslau (renamed Wroc?aw after the war):

"This overcrowded city faced the Soviet onslaught in January 1945.
Though without fortifications for the best part of 150 years, it had
been declared a Festung or "Fortress", and was to be defended to the
last man. This was a fate that Breslau shared with many cities and
towns of eastern Germany including: Danzig, Frankfurt/Oder, Kolberg,
Königsberg, Küstrin, and Posen. With the luxury of hindsight, the
Festung policy appears a desperate blunder ..."

The Festung policy is interesting but not exactly what I had in mind.

Hello Paulsepp,
May I suggest your raising the price of your question since it does
not seem attractive enough to entice researchers to try to answer it.
It may take a lot research and looking for resources to answer this
question. If the effort is compensated enough, a researcher may be
motivated to help you.

I upped the ante. I hope this may make it more enticing. This google
answers service is really cool. I can feel an answer coming closer.

All the buildings of some military importance built in Germany towards
the end of the war would somehow be protected against Allied air
raids,
e.g. (designed as early as 1934):

However, I haven't heard of the buildings you mention in your
question, and I can't remember having seen pictures of these
buildings.
