Question ID: 350193
I like to listen to internet based radio, reruns of Prarie Home
Companion from their website and other internet audio [like old time
radio], again all from the internet. I would like to transmit
WIRELESSLY these internet based audio sources directly from my
computer to our home stereo system in another room. Are there wireless
transmitters that will do the trick? I have DSL and also use a Linksys
Wireless-G router. I tried the Netgear MP101 but it didn't do it.

Hi Rod123
Your aim is to transmit the sound from your computer to the speakers
of your stereo system, wirelessly. There are at least 2 ways to do
that:
-----------------------------
1) Wireless FM Music Adapter:
-----------------------------
This device costs about 30 bucks and is available at RadioShack or
CircuitCity. Here the assumptions are that your stereo system has a FM
radio reciever and that the computer and the stereo are within 30 feet
of each other.
Here is link to irock! Wireless FM Music Adapter Brand/Model: IRK 400FM

-------------------------------------------
2) Wireless SoundPower Speaker/Jack System:
-------------------------------------------
This system is more sophisticated but more expensive also. But you
dont need any FM reciever and the range is about 100 feet. The link is
pasted below.

Please let me know if you want to explore other options. Also, it
would be helpful if you tell more about your stereo system.

Enjoy your music!

The second suggestion [www.x10.com] item sounds like the idea we need
but we need a bigger radius to make it through our thick walls ... who
has a STRONGER transmitter?
Thanks,
Rod

Hi Rod
Wireless speaker kit has more powerful transmitter and hence farther
range (100 ft).
The following link is to it's manual.
http://software.x10.com/pub/manuals/vk59a-om.pdf

I want to make 2 points:
----------
1.
While going through the manual I realized that Wireless speaker kit
DOES NOT use your whole stereo system, it just uses your speakers. So
each time you want to listen to it you will have to connect your
speakers to the wireless reciever(or to your home stereo in other
case) . Not a very big hassle but something you should think about.
------------
2.
Wireless FM Music Adapter is less powerful (30 ft), but if your PC and
stereo are in adjascent rooms that range may be enough. If your rooms
are huge, you can rearrange your PC and stereo so they lie near the
same wall. FM adaptor is simple to setup, needs no rewiring of
speakers and is cheap! Circuitcity has 30 day moneyback gurantee so
try it, if doesn't work, return it.
-------------
I discovered that x10.com offer many similar products. I suggest you
call their customer support to find out which product suits your needs
best.
