Hello, I have been looking at what nutritional supplements can aid in
Opiate Detox, and 1 of the most important seems to be an amino acid
called "DL-Phenylalanine" or DLPA. I have read in a few places that if
taking an SSRI antidepresant medication, it is important to consult a
doctor before taking DLPA (I am currently taking an SSRI similar to
Prozac, called Lexapro). The problem is, no doctor that I have been
able to find is knowledgable and experienced with both substances
(DL-Phenylalanine and SSRI Medications). Alternative Medicine doctors
often have experience with DL-Phenylalanine, but not with SSRI
medications. Traditional Medicine doctors are very familiar with SSRI
medications, but do not accept the concept that natural alternatives
can be quite effective. Anyway, I want to know if the two substances
can be taken at the same time and if there is any restrictions in this
regard that I should know about. Also, many different sources
recommend different dosages of DL-Phenylalanine & also of a related
amino acid called L-Tyrosine. Some say to take a maximum of
2000mb-3000mg of DL-Phenylalanine per day, while others say to take up
to 1500mg, and still others say to take between 4000mg and 6000mg.
There is the same kind of variety of recomendations for the dosage of
L-Tyrosine. I'd like to know what a safe dosage is (for opiate detox)
for both DL-Phenylalanine and L-Tyrosine (I think the dosage of 1
might effect the safe dosage of the other since they are related). And
of course I'd like a reasurrance (hopefully...) that it is ok to take
these two substances while I am on a small dose of a SSRI medication
(5mg of Lexapro daily). Also, if you are able to give me the contact
information for a few doctors in the Los Angeles area that could
perhaps help me (must be experienced with alternative medicine as well
as traditional) it would be extremely helpful (do such people exist?).
Thanks in advance for your help.
