I am looking for an Irish pub, supposedly "great", by the name of
TINEACHTAIN. The spelling is correct but it could be several words
rather than just one. Can anyone tell me if such a restaurant/pub
exists in Ireland? Unfortunately, I must have an answer by Tuesday, 5/25/04

Hi puzzleman,

The following is the result of my research for Ti Neachtain pub in Ireland:

TI NEACHTAIN (Cross St.)
Phone: +353 91 568820

"This is a century old family run business right at the heart of the
medieval quarter of Galway. The pub is housed in the building which
used to be the townhouse of famous politician and animal rights
activist Richard Martin, known as Humanity Dick, who lived there in
the last century. The bar itself holds a long and varied history,
particularly as one of the main homes of traditional Irish music in
the West."

Another spelling for this pub is Tigh Neachtain.

"Voted one of the top-six pubs in Ireland by Himself magazine, Tigh
Neachtain is what the Irish call "the genuine article." It is housed
in one of the last buildings in Galway that date from the Middle Ages
and is the only one with an intact oriel window. Inside, the place
positively breathes atmosphere. The labyrinth of tiny snugs are over a
century old, and the interior has scarcely been changed since 1894. A
piece of local trivia: This was once the home of Richard Martin, a
Galway politician and animal-rights activist known as "Humanity Dick."
Today it's known for its theatrical and literary clientele and for its
superb sessions of traditional Irish music."

"Located in the medieval quarter of Galway, this quintessentially
Irish pub has a fun and fantastic atmosphere. Tigh Neachtain's is a
century-old family-run business with a fairly regular clientele.
Regulars range from the musicians who play sessions here to theater
and media types to a healthy representation of Galway's gay community.
Popular with visitors and locals alike, Tigh Neactain's is a great
place to have a pint and a chat the night away."
