Where can I get a non-msn chat room that works like the msn groups
chat rooms, having emoticoms and text coloring etc, and the chat going
in a downwards direction?

I thought irir was asking how to find other chat rooms that have the
same functionality as the msn ones and not how to find emoticons.

Hi apteryx, thanks for your note. The eight instant messengers that I
listed use emoticons but are also similar to msn in other ways as well
(I just included the quotes about emoticons because that was an
important requirement), the "Additional Links of Interest" are just
there for additional information but not part of the main answer.
