A magazine (either Entertainment Weekly or Maxim) has a column that
runs sporadically where musicians made a playlist of songs by other
musicians that they enjoy. A while ago, a female musician (can't
remember her name) had a list of songs that included a rap song with a
tuba feature instumental. Being a former high school tuba player, I'd
like to know what song that was.

Hello.

The article that you read was in the February issue of Maxim:

'Jean Grae?s Burn This!
The up-and-coming rapper creates a gimmick-free CD
...7. "Still Ray" Raphael Saadiq
"Who puts tubas in R&B? Geniuses."'
source: Maxim, February 2004

As indicated in the article the song is "Still Ray" by Raphael Saadiq.

The song is Track #4 on Saadiq's CD "Instant Vintage." See the listing

search strategy:
maxim magazine
(browsed their entertainment archive)

I hope this helps.
