I understand that there is a trick in Microsoft Outlook, which means
if you have the same person listed in the Global address book and your
personal address book you can preference the personal address book by
prefixing the name with a character. I have looked everywhere and
can't find out how to do it. Just to explain I don't want to click
the TO button, but need to type in the name |

Correct me if I'm wrong. You want to type in the few characters of the
name in the TO field, and then you want Outlook to display the
matching names in a small list where you can select the correct name.
If this is what you are looking for, let me know so that I can post
the answer. I've been doing this and it is pretty handy and a cool
feature.
Which version of Outlook you are using?

Outlook 2000 is the version.
yes, I know you can type a few characters to get the name, and perhaps
finish it with Ctrl K to tell it to do it. This is slightly
different, because I want to tell it which address book to look in
when I type the characters. You need this when someone is listed in
the Global address book (on the Exchange server) and in your own
contacts folder. You need to keep both because you can't change the
server one unless you are administrator. Someone told me that you can
type dot or some character to get it to prefernce your own contacts
folder. I need to know what the character is or how to do it. I
hope this make sense.

One more clarification here.
So, let's say you've 2 address books. One is Global and other is
personal. Now, you want to search for a user in Personal address book
(PAB). So, you need "THAT" trick to do search within PAB only even
though your Global address book is in the list first. Do you always
want to search under the PAB or is it depending on the name, you know
where to search for and then you accordingly want Outlook to search
either within Global book or PAB (using "THAT" trick).
Is this what you are looking for?

Yes thats it. You will know you want the name from the PAB. I'll
explain. You work in a corporate and want to email a colleague who is
also a friend. If you type in their name it will automatically pick
up the email address from whichever address book is listed first. If
I know I want to email him at home I want it to come from my PAB and
not the global address list.

As I have not heard from you, I have done some more research. A
friend found it for me. You type a comma directly in front of the
persons name and it automatically gets the name from the PAB.
I guess I will not be charged, as there was no solution. Can you clarify?
