I found a recent sale of a 1970 proof set (made by Systema). I can
give you the final price of that set as an answer if you like. It is
not definitive but it'll give you an idea at least.

Here are some images of a portion of that set to compare to your own:

Dear dentistryexpert-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question. Since you are agreeable to this information in lieu of an
actual appraisal, here it is:

Here is a 1971 set of 50 Medallic History of Dentistry Limited Edition
Sterling Proofs by Systema, Inc. that sold on eBay for US$360.00 as
recently as May 9, 2004. You will note that the aution started
terribly low (US$19.00) and ten bidders fought for this item until it
reached an astounding $360. This was probably a surprise to the
seller, and hopefully welcomed news to you too.

You should also note that all actual researchers have their usernames
listed on Google Answers as an active link. Those who don?t, like the
commenter below, are not researchers. Unfortunately, for whatever
reason, commenters sometimes post things that are not necessarily
based on fact (like the comment below). Clearly your collection has
some value beyond it?s precious metal content and it probably, as seen
in the example of ten bidders I showed you, won?t be that difficult to
find a buyer who could care less about the silver itself.

Below you will find that I have carefully defined my search strategy
for you in the event that you need to search for more information. By
following the same type of searches that I did you may be able to
enhance the research I have provided even further. I hope you find
that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any questions
about my research please post a clarification request prior to rating
the answer. Otherwise, I welcome your rating and your final comments
and I look forward to working with you again in the near future. Thank
you for bringing your question to us.

Best regards;

Buyers are hard to find at more than the value of the silver in the
coins, but it is possible that someone, somewhere will pay ten times
the value of the silver.
