I am looking for the rankings for the top 50 law schools (in order)
from US News and World Report for the year 1988. I have looked at the
US News and World Report website and can only find the current
rankings.

According to this article US News didn't start ranking law schools until 1990.

I have just received a comment that there is an article stating that
US News did not start raking law schools until 1990. It is my strong
recollection (having graduated from law school in 1988) that there was
a ranking at that time. If the article is correct, however, the
question can be answered for 1990.

I was only able to find the top 25 law schools in the archived article
on lexis for 1990. Will that do?

I was asked if the top 25 would answer the question. It depends. I
am particularly interested in the ranking for the University of
Colorado, Boulder. If UC Boulder is in that top 25 in 1990 than the
answer is yes. Otherwise, I need the top fifty for 1990.

Thanks

U.S. News & World Report's 2005 Law School Rankings:
Why They May Not Be Trustworthy, and How the Alternative Ranking Systems Compare

The originator of law school rankings was Jack Gourman, a retired
professor of political science, who self-published rankings of a wide
range of graduate and undergraduate programs, beginning as early as
1967.

In 1990, U.S. News began ranking law schools, and it fast became the
leader in the field. It sells hundreds of thousands of copies of its
"rankings" issues (one for undergraduate colleges and universities,
one for graduate schools). Since 2004, its law school rankings
designate the "Top 100" law schools--in rank order--followed by an
unranked "third tier" and "fourth tier" that together include all
remaining law schools.

U.S. News and World Report did not begin rating law schools annually
until 1990. However, they did rank the top twenty law schools, based
on a survey of deans, while you were in law school -- in a November
1987 issue (apparently published in late October 1987).
