I am looking for a copy of a children's book, about a bear named
Horace. It may be titled "Horace" also. It dates from 1930s or early
1940s I think. The story goes through how Horace ate great grandma,
great grandpa, grandma, grandpa, ma, pa, Paul, and little Lulu. It was
a family classic.

I could not find a copy of the book but I know the actual title of it
and the author's name if you think this information might help you as
an answer.

The book is now rather rare. Would you like me to post the title and
author as an answer then and maybe you can make some local inquires
based on what you learn here?

I have also found what I believe is the complete text cersion of story
online. If it is a short children's story, what I have probably is the
whole thing minus the illustrations of course.

I am unable to find a copy for sale but please let me know if this,
the title and the author's name will work for you as an answer.

The book is The Story of Horace, by Alice M Coats. Abe Books currently
has two copies available:

http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?&ph=2&imageField.y=12&imageField.x=46&tn=horace&cmid=hp-search-form&an=coats&sts=t

Both are very expensive, I fear. The book does not appear to be in
print currently. Although I have found extensive material from the
book online in the form of scanned pages, I don't believe it is in the
public domain so I have not been able to provide a link to it.

Search strategy:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22story%20of%20horace%22%20lulu&num=50&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wg
That gave me the correct author's name

I did this search to verify that I had the correct book.

Great answer... I thought the story of Horace was lost forever. Now I
just have to look to my pocketbook for the dollars to buy the rarest
of books.
