I downloaded a program off the net about 5 (or more) years ago and
used it to password protect some JPG files. The encrypted files have
and extension .EZC (example MVC-029F.JPG.EZC). The problem is that I
have forgotten what program I used and desperately need to view these
files. Can you please find out what program I need to open these
files - I do know the password if you can find the program. Thanks |

Could it have been EZCrypt?

The problem is that I don't remember the name of the program . . . it
has been more than 5 years since I encrypted the files and I haven't
accessed them since. The files are on floppy disc and the encryption
program is no longer on my PC (I think these files are the only ones I
have ever encrypted). I will see if I can find a copy of EZcrypt on
the net to download and give it a try. If you know where I can get a
copy from please let me know.

I have tried EZCrypt (from www.ezcrypt.com) and EzCrypt+ by KMGI and
neither of them work. Any more ideas?

Could it possibly be EZ Screensaver?
http://www.econg.com/ezscreensaver/index.htm
It uses an EZC extension, and it is for saving images. It's not
really encryption, per se, but it may be your program just the same.
Let me know if it works.

I tried EZ Screensaver and it is defitely not the program.
Any other suggestions would me much appreciated. The program is
definitely an encryption/decryption program. I remember I could batch
encrypt/decrypt files or could just double click on an encrypted file
and it would open a dialog box asking for the password to decrypt it.

I can't download the program from easycrypt.co.uk but I will email
them to see if it will open my files. Going by the description on the
site I doubt this is the right program because it says that it "hides"
files. My files are not actually hidden - just encrypted and password
protected. I remembered that I got the program off a CD that I bought
with PC Magazine - I guess it was shareware or trial software. The
files were definitely encrypted in 1999.
I would appreciate any more help you can provide. I would even be
prepared to pay some computer whiz to decrypt the files if such a
person exists.

Hmmm...I had no problem downloading the file, so I'm not sure why it's
giving you difficulties. They even have two sites you can download
from, so one of them should do the trick. Why not try again...here's
a link directly to the download page:
http://www.easycrypt.co.uk/download.htm
By the way, the name of the download file is EZC100.exe, which bodes
well, I think.
Alteratively, you could upload one of your encrypted files to a
website, and I could try to unencrypt it myself with the program I
downloaded.
Let me know how things work out.

Sorry for the delay in my reply - my wife just had a baby. I just
took a look at the screenshots for easycrypt.co.uk and it looks very
familiar - yippee! I am downloading the program now and will let you
know how it goes (I am 99% sure this is the right one). I will be in
touch within 24hrs. Thanks.
