Microsoft Outlook is used by my staff for the majority of their daily tasks. How can I interface the rolodex of names into a Foxpro or SQL database? Put another way, how could I use Outlook on top a larger database/accounting system. My legacy accounting system client management software does all kinds of sophisticated stuff. But Outlook is where "we live" all day long. How can I put Outlook on the front-end and convert data in/out easily???? |

Your question intrigued me so I went out to the net to look around. Here are some Links I found that may answer your need. Enable Database Access and Updates Through Exchange and Any E-mail Client http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/02/01/OutlookSQL/default.aspx Connecting Outlook to Databases http://www.outlookcode.com/d/database.htm Here is a book that seems to touch the subject: Developing Applications Using Outlook 2000, CDO, Exchange, and Visual Basic http://www.addison-wesley.de/0201615754.html SlapStick Systems Offers this: http://www.slipstick.com/addins/groupcontacts.htm I?ve haven?t tried what your doing, but it seem that it's very do ?able. Dear Garmish, Can you be little more specific to the Outlook use in your Foxpro database. I mean what exactly you wish Microsoft Outlook should be used in your database. Cheers!!! Sanjay |

You should take a look at sites like www.slipstick.com or www.swynk.com, and also check out an Outlook group on Yahoo Groups related to developing in Outlook. I have developed custom Forms in Outlook which have VBScript code behind them that interfaces with a Microsoft SQL server. I'm sure something similar exists which would allow you to talk with a FoxPro database. The VBSCript environment is quirky to use, but the forms interface is similar to Visual Basic; you can place both built-in and Custom controls, run methods, set properties and values, etc. |
