I am a retired US Air Force veteran. I am attempting to find out how to go about obtaining the Presidential Service Badge (PSB). Executive Order 10879 establilshes the Presidential Service Certificate and the Presidential Service Badge. Paragraph(3)of this order also provides criteria which I believe I meet for authorization of the badge. I served on Presidential support duties as a rescue firefighter in close support for President Nixon from approximately 1968 through 1972 while stationed at Homstead AFB, Florida. My military DD-Form 214 along with special orders records the times and dates of this special duty as well as the missions to the Presidential summer White House located at Key Biscayne Fl., and Grand Cay, Grand Bahama Island. I wrote a letter to the Presidential Service Association (with Copy of DD-214 included),dated 01/21/04 requesting this information however, I have not received a response. Their address is 332 Nahant Road, Box 215, Nahant, MA 01908-0215. This is a prestigous Badges and I would like to verify if I'm entitled to it, and if so, how do I go about obtaining it? Thank You in advance for your support. Gene Traczyk MSgt USAF Retired | |

This is the first that I have heard of this badge, so please don't be entirely discouraged by what I found. http://www.archives.gov/federal_register/codification/executive_order/10879.html This website has the text of the executive order and any amendments since it was ordered on |

. . . Sorry, hit the wrong key June 1, 1960. Section 3 "Badge Established" includes "The Presidential Service Badge may be awarded to any member of the Armed Forces assigned to duty in the White House Office or to military units and support facilities under the administration of the Military Assistant to the President by the Secretary of the Army, the Secretary of the Navy, the Secretary of the Air Force, or, when the Coast Guard is not operating as a service in the Navy, the Secretary of Transportation, upon recommendation of the Military Assistant to the President, to military personnel of their respective services." I was hoping to find good information for you, but it (to me) appears that the Executive Order limits the badge to be awarded to military personnell -- the army, navy, air force, and coast guard. Again, I was hoping to find good information for you and hope I am missing something. Good luck! |
