Dear sknig31-ga, I assume you mean Dugongs. The answer to your question appears in a very comprehensive report by the United Nations Environment Programme titled: Status Report and Action Plans for Countries and Territories. It is a 172 page pdf file covering parts of the world where the dugong is found (some pages are blank, so make you sure you keep scrolling down). According to this report, Dugongs are under threat from: Habitat Loss and Degradation Fishing Pressure Hunting Vessel Strikes Ecotourism Acoustic Pollution Chemical Pollutants Diseases Susceptibility to mortality during capture for research Suggested conservation initiatives are: Legislation to protect them Ban hunting Education of local peoples Research to understand more about the dugong Better management of local resources Improved land use Sanctuaries and protection of their habitat I recommend you read the document as the threat to Dugongs varies depending on where in the world they are located. Source http://www.tesag.jcu.edu.au/dugong/doc/dugongactplan.pdf I hope this answers your question. If it does not, or the answer is unclear, then please ask for clarification of this research before rating the answer. I shall respond to the clarification request as soon as I receive it.
