I need the name of an old Disney Channel television show. I don't
know much about it, but I do know that it had a teenager as the main
character. He lived in Australia, but was transported to an
"alternate-dimension." I also recall that books were shaped quite
differently, like stopsigns, and that there were powerlines that ran
through the place he was in, even though it was somewhat stoneage.
What was the name of this science-fiction television show that used to be on the
Disney Channel?

I believe that the program you have in mind is the Australian Sci-Fi
TV series Spellbinder. In the U.S. it appeared on the Disney Channel.

Below you will find references where you may verify that this is the
correct answer.

?An unbelievable story of how young Paul Reynolds gets sucked into a
parallel world when a prank goes awry. He finds a civilization with
almost no knowledge of inventions and computers that are ruled over by
a group of dictators called The Spellbinders.?

?Spellbinder is one of the most captivating science fiction shows to
date - airing here in the states between the Disney Channel and the
Fox Family channel.?

?Modern lad is transported to a pseudo-medieval world that is techno
phobic -- neo-luddite -- anti-technology and anti-science. This
alternate reality is ruled by a band of "spellbinders" who, while
wearing specially built suits, can shoot energy bolts. Sure, it
sounds corny and contrived, but the show has its own magical energy
and strong ensemble acting.?

?In the USA, this appeared once on the Disney Channel.?

it passes close to power lines. A strange electrical surge passes
