I'm trying to find local UTM grid* topographical maps. I've put in
some hours searching, but can not find a website that sells them.

(*grids printed on map)

I'm looking for a paper map with grid lines. Preferrably Rockbridge Co Virginia.

I should have been more clear. Once you locate a map of interest at
the link I gave you (and they do have maps with UTM coordinates), then
you can order a paper version of the map by clicking on the
appropriate link on the left hand side of the page that shows the map.

Let me know if this isn't clear, or if I'm misunderstanding what you need.

I understand about how this works and I beleive mytopo.com may be what
I'm looking for. The only question I have is can I order 1:50,000
scale maps? The highist scale I could find was 1:30,000. My military
protractor uses 1:50,000 meters scale.

bigdaddy,

I received the following information from MyTopo.com:

"We have found that printing the USGS maps at a scale beyond 1:30,000
does not produce a high quality map. The information on the maps
becomes too small to print clearly. However, we could print your map
at a 1:25,000 if you desire. A 1:25,000-scale map will work if you're
using a grid tool or protractor designed for 1:50,000-scale maps -
just divide the values from the protractor by two."

=====

If you think that will suit your needs, let me know, and I'll post the
information as an answer, along with the direct contact information
for the helpful fellow at mytopo.com who answered my email.

Let me know.

Thanks pafalafa-ga,

I have a regular county map in 1:50,000 scale, the same scale used
by the military. I went to see a friend of mine at the local National
Guard Armory and he showed me how to draw the 1000 meter grids like
they use on my map. I tried this and it is sufficient for my needs.
Thanks for all the help!
