I need to overwrite my bootloader with Windows XP Home Edition. Usually, I'd just run: fdisk /mbr but fdisk is not in the OS. Question: How do I overwrite my bootloader in WinXP HE? |

Hello Jedihawk I believe the solution to this problem is as follows: 1) Insert your Windows XP CD into the computer. 2) Boot from the CD. 3) Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows. 4) Log into your Windows installation. 5) Enter your administrator password. 6) Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk where x is the drive letter of your CD. copy x:\i386\ntldr c: copy ntdetect.com c: 7) Fix the Master Boot record by typing: fixmbr 8) Remove your CD from the drive and reboot. This should fix your problem. If you have any questions or queries please ask as I am here to help you. |

Copying the files from the CD were unnecessary as they were already on the hard drive (same sizes and everything) so all I had to do was run fixmbr. It works great now! Thanks so much for all your help! :-) |
