I am in a computer 'enhanced' English class. The Cal State University has developed the Technology Infrastructure Initiative to better prepare the student because technology has been assimilated into our culture. With this movement, it basically states that computers must be used with all types of teaching including English. I need to find out what are some ways that we can cover Marshall McLuhan's theory of media while still including some form of digital literacy in order to cover all other literacies. Vzones.com has been one of the approaches that our professor has looked at but unfortunately I think that there must be something better than that. It does a good job demonstrating visual (semiotics), typographic (chatting), and digital literacies but lacks a certain realism aspect as that virtual world seems very unprofessional. There are other types of programs like there.com but systems like that require you to have an overwhelmingly powerful computer and other systems like IRC do not demonstate semiotics as well as Vzones. I will give a generous tip for an insightful, helpful, relatively quick answer. |
