Am interested in finding any information on Marcus, Mickey who was an American citizen killed accidentally in the war of liberation in 1948 in Israel. Please inform of date of death, what unit he was in, and did he have a relative H. Marcus at 212 Kenmore Ave, Los Angeles 4, California. I am a philatelist and have a letter addressed to above Marcus from 1948 and am trying to determine if this may be an envelope containing a letter informing them of his death looking for historical information |

I found this information: URL: http://www.correctionhistory.org/html/chronicl/nycdoc/html/colmicky.html "When Arab forces attacked [in May, 1948], Marcus serve[d] as supreme commander of the Israeli forces on the Jerusalem front. On June 10th, 1948, just six hours before the first truce . . . he was killed while inspecting his troops. . . Col. Marcus was laid to rest at West Point . . . " I couldn't find information about H. Marcus |
