We are looking for a list of 3 recommended software packages for viral
marketing campaigns. The software can be either hosted or desktop
based but must have the following features:
1) An e-mail based solution.
2) The ability to interface with an in-house ODBC database.
3) The ability to track referrals.
4) The ability to send out e-mails to referred contacts preferable.
5) Track the number of click-throughs of the e-mails.
6) The ability to handle 300,000 e-mails per month.

In addition, we would like to know the prices for each of these
software packages.

Could you expand on feature #4 a little further? What exactly do you
mean by "the ability to send out e-mails to referred contacts
preferable"? Who is referring the contacts, etc.?

When you are talking about Viral Marketing here do you mean potential
email list server software. Software that will allow you to send out
emails to subscribers, which also have a viral marketing campaign
potential.

One reason I ask is that I am working on a similar solution for the
work I do. So I can give you a complete solution that will suit your
needs if you would prefer.

Yes. I am talking about e-mail list server software with viral
marketing capabilities. However, the need to interface with our
in-house database does not seem to be fulfilled by the current crop of
viral marketing software that I can find.

Regarding feature 4, the referrals are by current customers. E.g. we
send out a special offer to our current subscribers who then forward
the e-mail or refer their friends to increase their chances of winning
a certain prize.

Hope this is sufficient clarification. If not, please let me know.
Thanks!

I have place what I know as a clarification because I don't feel it
answers completely your question as I don't know other software
packages.

But I would recommend looking at the Lyris Listmanager software
package. It has everything that you are looking for:
It can access and in-house database, you can track click-throughs and
is able handle the volume of emails you are talking about.

Pricing is available on the

As for the other features you require, it does have an API which will
allow you to script new functionality that can do the job at hand. For
points 3 & 4 I would suggest having a link in your email that says
something like Click here to refer a friend. They click on that link
and get taken to a webpage where they can enter their friends email
address. Then you can get the software to send a one time mailing to
them which is unique thus allowing you to track and record the
referal.

I hope that makes sense.

Lyris information is obtainable at:

Hope that helps in part.

Hi aziphirael,

Thanks for your info that you provided as a clarification. Actually,
we've already looked at Lyris' listmanager but we were hoping that
there would be an integrated solution.

Thanks for your help though...
