Hi! I would like to hire an individual to show me live via ssh how to upgrade MySql on my Linux server. I have attempted an upgrade before with no success. I am running Fedora Core 1 which comes with MySQL 3.23.58. To benefit the Google Answers service and those who may need to install MySQL and are using this as a resource in the future, I believe it's fair to post the steps we used (I'll post the bash history once we have succeeded) here. Here's an outline (For $40) 1. Connect to the Linux server in a way which I will be able to shadow your activities. 2. Download MySQL 4 and proceed to upgrade the old MySQL. 3. Please periodically explain what you are doing so that I will understand for future installations. 4. Configure MySQL to start automatically as a service. 5. Shadow my activities while I attempt to import the MySQL database from another computer into the new database, to be sure that I don't blow everything up. Optional for additional $20.. totalling $60 dollars. 6. Download PHP 5 and install it over the old PHP. 7. Configure PHP to run with Apache and connect it to MySQL. I will pay you once these tasks have been completed. This is NOT a critical server (yet) so if you for any reason have messed up in the configuration causing errors, I will just reinstall Fedora and we can try again. I will only proceed to do this if it's possible (and I'm sure it is) to pipe the session over to another screen so I can see the actions of the other user. If anyone can help, that would be awesome! Thanks. -Alan Student Computer Technician |
