I have several pieces of computer equipment that I would like to
donate to someone--presumably a nonprofit organization-- to get them
off my hands and in the hands of someone who can use them. Donee
needs to be in New York City metro area. Equipment includes brand new
(unopened boxes) printer and scanner plus two used and old laptops and
various other items (a CD burner, another printer, etc.)

Fine, that's why I want to donate to a nonprofit, which may use the
stuff itself or put it in the hands of poor people. I'd like to do it
through an organization that can check out and ensure that some of the
old equipment works properly. And, a nonprofit that can give me a
receipt I can use for tax deduction purposes.
