Question ID: 355404
I purchased a water cooler for my office about 6 years ago at a
wholesale club. The spigot is broken and needs replacement. The logo
on the front of the machine is a polar bear. The manufacturers name in
the back of the unit is Waterboy Mfg Inc., Dover, Delaware. Serial
#98231250. Model #CRB1P-001. Can you help me locate the manufacturer
so I can order a replacement spigot?

All the evidence points to the conclusion that your water cooler was
manufactured by Sunroc, LLC. Here is the contact information for that
company:

SUNROC, LLC
60 Starlifter Avenue, Kent County Aero Park
Dover, DE 19901-9254 USA
Phone: 1-302-678-7800
Fax: 1-302-678-7809

An e-mail to the company can be sent from this page:
http://sunroc.com/contact.cfm

Here's the evidence, which has twists and turns something like a
detective novel, but leads me to the reasonable conclusion that
Sunroc is indeed the manufacturer of your unit.

1. The government's "Energy Star" program rates home appliances for
their energy efficiency. A product list from that organization lists
Sunroc as the manufacturer of water coolers carrying the "Waterboy"
brand. Here is a link to the relevant page of that product list:

Energy Star: Product List: Water Coolers
http://www.energystar.gov/ia/products/prod_lists/water_coolers_prod_list.pdf

You will find the two listings for Sunroc/Waterboy about one-third of
the way down the page.
(This PDF document that requires Adobe Reader to access. In the
unlikely event that this program is not installed on your computer, a
free download is available here:
Adobe Reader
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html )

2. The current model numbers in the Energy Star product list do not
match yours. However, Sunroc clearly manufactured a "CRB" series of
coolers at some time in the past, since those coolers are still being
sold as used or rebuilt units. Here's a link to an example, which,
probably coincidentally, is being offered for sale by a New York
spring water supplier called "Water Boy":
Waterboy.com: Products: Coolers
http://www.waterboy.com/Products_Services_Coolers.asp

3. Here's another reference to Sunroc's "CRB series" of coolers, from
a manufacturer of replacement cooler cabinets:

"Cabinet parts are also a perfect fit on EBCO® BLF-series and Sunroc®
CRB-series framed coolers. Makes your old coolers look like new!"
Filter Springs (scroll to bottom of the left-hand column of text)
http://filtersprings.com/tbweclss.html

4. "CRB Series" coolers are also offered here without further brand
identification, but associated with products offered under the Sunrise
brand, which is also a Sunroc product:
Vending Plus
http://www.vendingplus.com/water.htm

Here's the evidence for the Sunroc/Sunrise link:
Water Filters Online
http://www.waterfiltersonline.com/detail.asp?product_id=SUN_TPVP-1H

To sum up:
Sunroc is located in Dover, DE, and I have found no other water cooler
manufacturer in that small city;
Sunroc manufactures coolers under the Waterboy brand;
Sunroc has in the past manufactured coolers with used the prefix "CRB
1P" for their model numbers.

Additional information:

Just in case you bought your unit at Sam's Club, the Dover Post
carried the following item on October 23, 2002 about Sunroc's
relationsship with that discounter:

"Sunroc Corp. of Dover, the nation's second-largest water cooler
manufacturer, said it is looking to restore at least 60 jobs it had
eliminated after losing a major contract with Sam's Club to a firm in
Malaysia."

Search Strategy:

I used the following Google searches, among others:

This search led me to Sunroc:
watercooler manufacturer dover
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=+watercooler+manufacturer+dover

I then looked for information on Sunroc, starting with this simple
search and following up with related searches:
sunroc
://www.google.com/search?q=sunroc&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8

In order to link Sunroc with your serial number (successfully, it
turned out), I conducted the following search:
crb sunroc
://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=crb+sunroc

I am confident that Sunroc is the manufacturer of your cooler. If
anything is unclear, or in the unlikely event that you are told by
Sunroc that it is not the manufacturer, please ask for clarification.,
and I would be happy to assist you further.
