Question ID: 355419
I am interested in articles concerning the Francis E. Pellegrini
murder which occurred on or about May 30, 1984 in Chicago, Illinois.
How can I go about obtaining copies of any Chicago newspaper stories
about that murder? The online archives of the Tribune only go back to
1985.

strita-ga,

There are a number of online archives of newspapers and magazines that
cover the Chicago area, and extend back well beyond 1984. I searched
these for the name you asked about, and came up empty-handed.

Are you certain of the spelling of the name? Are there any other
details you can provide that might help with our research.

Thanks.

I am not in Chicago, unfortunately. There are no major libraries
where I am located.

If you are located in the United States, you can have photocopies made
through interlibrary loan at your local library. There is a print
index to the Tribune and Sun-Times newspapers that goes back to the
70's. The Chicago Public Library owns the print index and many other
large urban libraries may own them. In order to get the articles
copied you would have to look at the print index and get the citations
for the articles you need. Then you would initiate the interlibrary
loan through your local public library and they would look for the
nearest library that owns the Newspapers back that far and obtain the
photocopies.

If you go to the main branch of the Chicago Public Libriray (the
Harold Washinton Library) you can find newspapers dating back to 1833
on microfilm. The folling papers are on File for 1984:

Chicago Defender
Chicago Reader
Chicago Sun Times
Chicago Tribune
I'm not aware of any internet sources that have articles from then.

Hello, bowler-ga!

I could find nothing in various newspaper archives, including the New
York Times, which goes back farther than 1984. However, here are three
recent articles which discuss the Pellegrini case.
