I need to find out where in Quicken's software file structure the QIF
imports reside as I want to delete them to correct a problem I am
having. I'm using Quicken 2001 Deluxe version and have imported the
same QIF file twice. The results is a duplicate version of
transactions that are waiting for me to bring them into the register
(these transactions are located in a separate window and have the
option to "accept all, or manually approve " before they are added
into the register. I feel that if I can erase the QIF data that I
imported before it is added to the register then I can proceed from
there. Any ideas of where this file/folder is located on the quicken
software structure? |

Greetings, Geoartist!
Has this occurred more than once? Is it possible that you believed you
had downloaded a new Import file, when in reality the old file still
remained?
Do you download the Import file manually from your bank online, or do
you get it by clicking on the lightning bolt?
I use Quicken 2002 Deluxe, and it doesn't have this problem. I import
files using both methods, depending on the account. However, using the
manual download method, I have on occasion erroneously not entered a
correct "All Transactions from" begin date, and have gotten
transactions that I had previously pulled. On one occasion, I did the
usual "Save As" of the Import file, but apparently did not complete
the process, since the old file still remained when I tried to do the
import.

A-I downloaded from my bank transactioons with the same date range
twice resulting in duplicate transactions "waiting' to be OK'd by me
and added to the register. I'm using Quicken 2001.
The real question is do you know where this qif data resides ( or what
is has been converted to) in the Quicken file structure so that I can
delete it and repopulate the register correctly. I could manually
delete all items but as there are several hundred entries I find it
too time consuming.

geoartist,
I guess what I'm trying to determine is why you believe that the file
has been changed and stored elsewhere, and whether the problem has
occurred more than once. If it's a one-time occurrence, the Commenter
below is correct, and the entries have now been pulled into the
register and reside as part of *all* of your data in the .qdf file --
and you **don't** want to mess with that file, except by using
functions inside Quicken, which will do so safely. Deleting the
register entries for a date range, then reimporting the .qif file as
they suggested, will work.
On the other hand, if this has occurred to you more than once, there
may be something else going on, and I can help you to troubleshoot
that.
Let me know whether you need further assistance,

Hi Ace

My answer
- the problem has only occured because I imported the same .qif data
into the program twice. Now I have two sets of data that I have yet to
bring into my register. This scenerio has only happened once.

My comment
-Well if that's the case then do you know of any way of selecting a
date range for deletion versus manually deleting some 500 plus
transactions? If there is a way to select a date range (say
12/03/03-05/12/04) for deletion then my problem is solved and you have
provided an answer.
thanks

geoartist,
I've been poking around trying to see what I can find for you. It
certainly appears that Intuit has made it as difficult as possible to
do what you need to do, but I'm still looking for a solution. However,
any Researcher who can find an Answer for you is welcome to post it,
because I'd like you to get the information as soon as possible.
In the meantime, something you could do to get these out of your way
is a "Find and Replace" on all transactions after a certain date;
change their Category to Void, change their Amount to 0.00, change
their Payee to spaces, and finally, change the date to 01/01/1975,
which will make them go to the old end of your register where you
shouldn't have to look at them.

I regret I don't have Quicken, so I can't verify if you have this
option. Accounting wise, you really can't delete transactions, you
have to void them. If you still have the ability to match
transactions, which it sounds like you do, you may be able to just
accept the transactions as matched. You may wish to manually accept
one by one, but matching transactions doesn't duplicate, as I see it.
From what I can tell from
(Intuit Support, keyword IMPORT, select Using the Compare to Register
feature when importing a QIF file in Quicken.)
"Matching Transactions
If a transaction has a status of Match, and is the same as the
transaction that appears in the Register section, select the
transaction in the Compare to Register window, and then click Accept.
"
Deleting Transactions
To delete a transaction from the Compare to Register window, select
the transaction, and then click Delete.
Note: Once all of the transactions have been either accepted or
deleted, click Done. If you receive the message "There are too many
Quick Tabs already open." close any unnecessary Quick Tabs to complete
the import.
My (uninformed) Opinion? Just make sure the matches are correct. As
long as you don't have to unmatch any of them. It doesn't seem to
affect your register until you UNmatch transactions. You (apparently)
must purposefully (and knowingly) make a new transaction to duplicate.
*hits forehead* This is what my wife does on Money (similar concept):
She'll enter a transaction, later download from the bank, and if they
match, she accepts. This is the same thing. I apologize for not
getting this right earlier. (I am not an answerer, and don't have
Quicken). |
