Many of the states have changed the licensing rules since 1965 so comparisons may not be very meaningful. Besides the 3 disciplines you mentioned there are likely several more in between, in some states. Social worker may be a very broad category in some states. I presume you do not want to distinguish between government and private sector. How do you want to deal with persons trained in these disciplines, but working in a job description that does not quite fit any of them? Neil |

Neil Thanks for your quick response. I want to be able to make a general statement. It doesn't have to be precisely verifiable. For example, if I could say that in 1965 there were 10,000 mental health professionals in the U.S. (including government and private, social workers and psychologists etc and in 1980 there were _____ and in 2002 there were _______, if the numbers were honest without being accurate down to the penny- I'd be fine with that. I'm wanting to parallel the number of practioners of 'mental health' with the number of failed marriages and see what, if anything, can be drawn from that. thanks again. Stephen (marriagedoc.) |

But how would you know whether failed marriages caused an uptick (or downtick) in mental health numbers or whether increased levels of mental health caused more marriages to fail? I hope you are not trying to do anything important with this kind of imformation. |
