This should be a easy question. I recently graduated from Boston
University with a degree in Finance & Management Information Systems.
I am looking for a job, but havnt found one yet. My ideal job is an
analyst of some sort (such as a business analyst or financial
analyst). I was thinking that getting certified or taking some kind
of exam might help out. I want finance ones (like the series 6, etc)
and information systems ones (like MCSE, etc). What certifications or
exams are out there for someone like me? Also, which ones would be
the most beneficial to my job search. I basically want to know which
ones are out there, and which ones would employers hiring put the most
emphasis on. Thanks

nasd exams require broker-dealer sponsorship. If you can pass the
MCSE, all the power to you. Generally, doing well on the tech exams
goes hand-in-hand with hands-on job experience.

Don't wait too long before you take a job in your field, as resume
gaps look bad. If you are determined to wait until something great
comes along, then take this time to build your resume. It does not
have to be work. I might suggest volunteer work that relates to
issues about which you care. I would venture to guess that the other
Finance grads are not out feeding the poor. Six months from now, you
may be competing for a job with another applicant just like you,
except he has spent the past six months faxing resumes and playing
xbox while you have been out saving the planet, teaching homeless
squirrels to read, etc.

Serious volunteer work at a young age ahows an employer that you are
mature, unselfish, you care about others, and you have at least some
morals.
