Question ID: 356013
Can I add something to the end of my URL (www.inspectionsbybob.com)
that will tell urchin where the session came from without having to
create lots of Index pages with the same content or forwarding to the
same page?

Something like "www.inspectionsbybob.com/Source=googleadwords"

I have no idea if this is possible, or what the format would be, I
just know I would like to track closer where my traffic is comming
from. I currently subscribe to Google, Overture and Looksmart and
control both the URL that is displayed and the url that is actually
used, right now they are the same. My ISP uses Urchin for tracking,
and I would like to see more of where the incomming traffic is comming
from.

After I posted the message I found that I can add "?source=overture"
to my url. Is there a specific format that Urchin expects so that my
existing stats program (Urchin) will understand the new stuff?

What you do is add something like

www.inspectionsbybob.com/?mycampaign

to the end of the url. So in Google you could add /?google or
/?google_keywordgroup or something. This will only be visible on the
first page then though as this is likely not being tracked through.
After the first click on your page the ?xxx part will be gone. But you
can try that on your page.

To track stuff like this through you need to tell your links to do
that really, which gets a bit more complicated. Then you could also do
things like /?source=google&info=keywordgroup .

Overture will also pass over the keyword you advertised on and they
keyword that the person clicking searched for (which might be a
phrase, dependent on your match settings). You could put these
somewhere (in the info field for example)

If you have registrations that happen right at the first page, which
would be good if you look for registrations, then you could also save
the variables in your form.

all this needs a bit of html/php/x programming though if I am not
totally mistaken, so this might make this a bit longer.

I hope this at least gives you an idea.
