Question ID: 356181
Who can substantiate that Jan Berry (of the rock group Jan and Dean)
attended medical school, and where?

Almost all biographies of Jan Berry marvel at Berry's ability to
juggle medical school and a successful musical career at the same
time, but I have found no definite documentation confirming that he
was enrolled in medical school. The medical schools that Berry most
likely would have attended in the LA area would have been UCLA or USC.

Documents, photographs, transcripts supporting his attendance of
medical school are desired. References to websites that say "Jan
Berry went to medical school" are a dime a dozen, and for this
question, would be completely unconvincing.

Thank you for your research!

Hello.

Before his 1966 accident, Jan Berry was attending the California
College of Medicine (CCM), an osteopathic medical school that became
part of the University of California - Irvine.

Numerous sources support Berry's attendance at the California College
of Medicine (CCM) in the mid-1960s.

From Jan Berry's official web site:

" Having progressed from pre-med at UCLA, Jan was now a full-time
student at the California College of Medicine (CCM). He had been
accepted to the prestigious school in March, and as part of his
first-year curriculum was enrolled in a biochemistry course"

Also see the Jan & Dean media guide from the same site:

"JAN BERRY
Born: April 3, 1941
Home Town: Los Angeles, California
Education: University High School, University of California at Los
Angeles (UCLA), California College of Medicine (never finished)."

Also see Jan's obituary in the Guardian newspaper:
"While recording in the early 1960s, he also, for a time, studied at
the California College of Medicine."

Jan's status as a medical student is confirmed by a 1965 article in
the New York Times.

"The other day, Jan Berry, a young medical student, was sitting in a
lecture hall when he had an idea for a song."

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much...this answers my question exactly. I had not
known about CCM and how it ultimately became UC Irvine's medical
school, which is an interesting subject in its own right. I
appreciate your prompt response...it was worth the price paid.
