Question ID: 356249
Anyone heard of a company called AFCOA? The signatures of the
transfering agents are: O. R. EGON, BETTY GULICH, AND W. D. BEVANS.
The stock certificates say they are transferable in the city of Los
Angeles or in the city of New York. The stock was purchased from
United Securities Company of America and registered at United
California Bank in Los Angeles by officer J. Brent. There are 550
shares for which $7612.50 was paid in August and September of 1971.
That is all the information I have currently as the certificates are
in the possission of my widowed mother. Thank you.

Hello.

AFCOA began life as a California company in 1963 as the Alumina
Ferrite Corporation of America, and formally changed its name to AFCOA
in 1970. It seems to have traded into the 1980's, when it drops out of
site.

It is quite likely that the company went belly-up, and the
certificates you possess have no value (except, perhaps, to a
collector). But to find out for sure, you would have to purchase a
stock history report from an online commercial service. The report
costs $40.00, and would give you details about AFCOA as to whether it
was bought by another company, changed names, went bankrupt, etc.

Would you like me to post details for accessing this online report as
an answer to your question?

Let me know.

Exactly identify CURRENT name, status, stock symbol, (if one exists);
and contact name, address, phone number, (or current broker contact
information), for AFCOA.

At various times they designed and manufactured aerospace materials,
gigantic weight bearing shock absorbers for things like dams and
skyscrapers, and there are also vintage heavy auto shock absorbers
with AFCOA as part of their part numbers.

I have seen it listed on certificate lists but with no other
identifying information. It may have been assimilated by the DOD.

Here is how it listed, but I don't know what the numbers mean:

AFCOA 00105210

PERMNO CUSIP NAME TICKER EXCH DATE-RANGE

10197 22172 00105210 A F C O A 3 1972/1229- 1973/0228

I'm afraid I wasn't clear enough in my earlier comment.

There is a commercial service that can tell you the CURRENT status of
the company once known as AFCOA. They charge a fee of around $40 for
the information.

I know for certain that AFCOA is in their database. Would you like me
to post information about accessing this service as an answer to your
question?

If your anwer is "Yes", please note that you would be paying your
Google Answer fee, as well as a separate fee to the commercial
service.

Let me know what you think.

If you know a broker or do business with a broker/dealer, some B/D's
will have a department that can help you. It helps if you are an
existing client.
