I'd like to get screen shots of the Hotmail and Yahoo! web mail
services as they were around September 1999. The screens I need is
after a user has logged in, so it shows the primary screen: with the
list of folders and the list of emails in the Inbox. Ideally the
screens need to be from either a print magazine or another medium
whose publication date can be independently verified.

An alternative maybe to look through some old magazines eg Wired,
Time, Businessweek, Fortune that might have a picture of a
Hotmail/Yahoo screen, and then scan or let me know which edition the
picture is in.

Dear aliencamel

Perhaps the Internet Archive Wayback Machine would be helpful:

Kind regards

first place we checked, but it only has the login screens, not the one
that actually shows the email user interface.

Here?s an excellent 1999 Hotmail screenshot but it?s in Japanese so I
doubt it will do you much good unless you know someone who can
translate it for you:

Here?s a 1999 Hotmail contact page:
