I am interested in setting up a "900" number so that I can charge
persons for the pleasure of leaving me a message. This is intended to
target telemarketers. (I have a free number for friends and
family.)The service should not cost more than $10 per month. I need to
know who to contact and what rate I can expect to pay. I am not
interested in buying a book on "900" numbers, or in paying a set up
fee of several hundred dollars. Don't bother answering if this cannot
be done simply.

I'm going to leave this as a comment, because I don't feel it is an
answer, but I can tell you already, I doubt you'll be able to get the
service for under $10.00 a month. I worked at one time for a MAJOR
phone company, and the cost of the basic business line you would need,
plus taxes, will be more than $10.00 monthly. You could set up your
existing landline( Only if it was a business account) as a 900#,
however, then everyone who called would be paying to talk to you.
As much fun as messing with the telemarketers can be, it's not
financially adventageous to have a 900# for just that reason. For the
company I worked for, you'd be spending about $40.00 to $50.00 a month
for that line with that service.

It wouldn't work anyway, because telemarketers aren't going to be
stupid enough to call 900 numbers.

If you sign up for this service, you can give it out as your number,
and you can save your own message that's more sarcastic or silly than
you would use on your home phone. It will send you an email when you
have a voicemail, and you can listen to it over your computer.
