Hello,

I'm not sure what started it, but recently my Excel 2000 on Win Me has started
hanging/crashing when I close it. Doesn't matter what Excel file I
open, or even if I just open Excel without a file, I can't close it.
My PC locks up and Ctrl+Alt+Del brings up a "System dangerously low in
resources" message asking if I want to close down Excel (and each
subsequent Ctrl+Alt+Del asks me to close another application).
Closing them doesn't matter, as it still locks up my PC.

I've tried the repair/reinstall function for Office 2000, and I've
even uninstalled Excel and reinstalled it. I also have virus software.

Please help!  Tired of rebooting!

Ed

Hello esarkissian-ga,

Please run the following programs and let us know the result.

1. Post the log after running this program for further review-
   HijackThis --> http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

2. SpyBot-S&D --> http://shinobiresources.com/Downloads/spybot/spybotsd13.exe

3. Ad-aware --> http://www.webattack.com/download/dladaware.shtml

Download them, install, UPDATE and then run them and let us know if
anything unusual is reported.
These can help in reducing lot of spywares and other unwanted files on your system.

Thanks

netcrazy,

I already had Spybot S&D and Ad-aware on my pc, so I just ran them-

Hi Ed,

Log on the same machine as another user. Does it still crash?

Log as yourself:

1. Could come from a corrupt registry.

You can unregister and re-register excel by running excel.exe with the
following command line switches (menu Start > Run):
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /unregserver
then
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /regserver
For more info, see <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q211/4/81.ASP&NoWebContent=1>

2. Could come from a corrupt toolbar file:

Delete the file excel.xlb in directory
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel
(replace <username> with your loggin name)

I hope this helps,

Regards,
Sébastien

Thanks Sebastien,

I had tried the excel.xlb a day earlier and it worked so all is well
now. Forgot the question was still here....been so long since someone
responded. But you did the work and got the right answer so go ahead
and post it.  Thanks.
