I am a Peace Corps volunteer living and working in South America. I
live in Georgetown, the capitol city of Guyana located centrally on
the northern coast. There are around 50 volunteers here in country
working in the IT, Health and Education sectors. We all live
scattered around the country from the coast to the interior. Our
primary focus is the job at our designated institutions and
organizations.
My particular job is to solve communications issues with our stake
holders as well as addressing our own issues at the World Wildlife
Fund. I also do a lot of secondary projects, like fund raising,
clothing drives done in the US and a conservation youth forum for the
secondary students in Guyana to discuss ecological and health issues
in the country.
I have a project in mind and I am not sure where to start. There is
an old market in Kitty (I guess you would call it a suburb of
Georgetown) and it is the center of commerce and social activity that
is the heart of this ?suburb.?. The building is a rather unique one
built in the Dutch Colonial style of the time when Holland occupied
this country.
Unfortunately the building is falling to pieces and the money to
renovate it does not exist. What I would I would like to initiate is
the collection of resources, funds and possible labor to reconstruct
this building. Do you have any suggestions as to how I could possibly
get this project off the ground and make it a reality? Are there
construction companies that you know of that would be interested in a
project such as this? That is known for their altruism and
philanthropy?
I want to get this project stated and I have no idea where to go, what
suggestions do you have? |
