I am trying to find out what company/companies actually manufacture
rash guards sold to/worn buy surfers. I'm not interested in
wholesalers, rather the companies who actually sew the fabric together
creating a rash guard.
thanks

Hi usmctex,

The following is the result of my research for manufacturers of rash guards.

ProMotion
http://www.wetsuit.com/

"...ProMotion entered the Windsurfing market full force by opening a
factory and showroom in Hood River, Oregon. Besides being a top
windsurfing destination, the "Gorge" has proven to be an unbeatable
location to design and test wetsuits. Temperatures range from below
freezing in the winter, to above 100 degrees in the summer, giving
ProMotion the opportunity to test and refine every product in their
line. From cold water steamers all the way down to sun protecting
rash-guards, it all has to pass the "Gorge" test before it ends up on
the sales floor. The showroom in Hood River also puts ProMotion in
direct contact with watersport athletes of all kinds and all
abilities. Feedback and input from these people has a major impact in
everything we do. With over 25+ years as an innovative wetsuit
manufacturer ProMotion will continue to be the "suit of choice" for
watermen (and waterwomen) who ask the most from their gear."

O'Neill
http://www.oneill.com/home/index.php?G=M

"...Working with different types of flexible foam, his first success
was with polyvinylchloride (PVC). While it had good insulating
properties, it was prone to a lot of wear and tear so he glued a sheet
of plastic to the PVC and made a vest. Voila! His first wetsuit. Yet,
while PVC served its purpose, it was hard to work with and Jack went
back to the drawing board.
Jack finally struck gold with neoprene, which he discovered carpeting
the aisle of a DC-3 passenger plane.
It was a good insulator, buoyant and easy to bond. Soon after Jack
developed designs for the shorty, long john and long-sleeved
beaver-tailed jacket wetsuits.
(...)
Since 1952, it has become the world's premiere wetsuit manufacturer
and has expanded into other sports like snowboarding, wakeboarding and
triathlons. And while not highly publicized, O'Neill also makes
specialized wetsuit gear for a number of elite military special
operations and combat rescue units..."
