Listing all examples that I've found in the US would take up a lot of
room, so I'll provide just a few in this space:

Several sites I've visited, many linked below, cite the Computer
Career Institute at Johns Hopkins University as a great place for
those interested in game design.

The Art Institute Online provides an online game design course:

The Montgomery College, in Maryland, has courses involving game design:

University of Advancing Technology

For a more complete list, this website is an excellent source that
should help a lot in answering your question:

Some additional information can be found at the Game Design Schools
section of education-online-search.com:

If you have been interested in game design, you may have heard about
this one already:
http://www.digipen.edu/main.html

Digipen is a school dedicated to design. It's located in Redmond,
Washington and I myself have heard a lot of good things about it. I
read an excellent article in the gaming magazine Electronic Gaming
Monthly a couple years ago that covered Digipen, and I wish I could
provide a link to that.

Digipen, and others, are mentioned in this recent Reuters article:
(US colleges offering video game studies)
http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xfile=data/todaysfeatures/2004/May/todaysfeatures_May54.xml&section=todaysfeatures

It's more difficult tracking down courses in Australia, and I've
searched Australian school sites and course lists, but have had little
luck.

But, this may be of interest to you:

You may also be interested in this message board thread, in which
someone asks the same question(the link that's provided in the first
post does not work, and was apparently changed to

I hope this has been helpful. If this answer is unsatisfactory or you
need more information, please do request a clarification, and I'll do
my best in searching out any extra information that you may need.

Very well done...quick response and an excellent service. I might like
to mention that RMIT also does game design courses, you only gave me a
link to a forum which gave me a link to RMIT...where my sister goes!
:) Good job otherwise.

A much more extensive message board thread from the same site linked above.

Sorry about that. Looking over my answer, I certainly should have
provided a link to RMIT right up top with the rest.

Thanks for the tip!
