This was not a popular movie with any actors that I knew. It starts
with a women buying a painting for in her new apartment. She thinks
she sees this picture change She find leaves form a tree in her living
room and realizes they are coming off the tree in the picture. At
one point she goes into the painting and that is how the rest of the
movie happens. It is a story then based in part, on the demeter/
persephone myth. At the end of the movie, the action returns to her
livingroom.

Hi cactuslynn,

Does this sound like the movie you are looking for:

"Three weeks before her marriage she becomes enamored with a
Vermeer-style painting in an art museum. She believes she can see
randy Netherlanders and their serving wenches within the canvas coming
to life and reacting, invitingly, to her presence. Teresa begins
wearing clogs and bonnets to her dental-assistant job, with sexier
things on her mind than teeth. Ultimately, she steps into the painting
and becomes part of the action just out of the frame. Her friends and
fiance search for her in vain."

Regards,
Rainbow

This was a movie that I saw when I attended UCLA. It was not a TV
show. I have read the book Rose Madder and while I did enjoy it, it
is not this movie. The picture showed a girl in a toga style dress
standing at a broken Roman column looking back over her shoulder and
down toward a field and other very small buildings. It was as if she
had run up this hill, while escaping from something. She had, it was
Hades. There is a tree in the forfront of this painting and some of
the leaves "fall out of the frame" and land in the womens appartment.
As to who any of the actors are............ I don't know a one.

Cactuslynn,
I notice that you wrote, "This was a movie that I saw when I attended UCLA."

In what years did you attend UCLA? This might give us a clue as to
the approximate date of the movie.

I wonder if this movie is "The Witches"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100944/ ... Although I've probably seen
this scene somewhere else... Would you know if your movie had Angelica
Houston in it?

I am not sure how to respond to the clairification responce other than
to say "no". It was not a porno flick or what ever you are
describing. I can't believe someone would watch a movie where someone
"begins wearing clogs and bonnets to her dental-assistant job". Please
if you think this is funny, I don't. I thought someone with Google
actually read not only the questions but
the responces to weed this type of ignorance out.

My apologies if you took offense at the clarification I posted above.
This move is *not* a "porno flick". Abiding by the Terms Of Services,
I do not post pornographic material. This movie was nominated for an
Oscar for best short film.

"The Dutch Master is a cleverly developed, lighthearted comedy about
the differences between reality and fantasy, and the hidden
inhibitions uncovered by crossing that line. In one sense, there is a
commonality between Susan Seidelman's Oscar-nominated short (the movie
is less than 30 minutes long) and John Duigan's Sirens -- both
narratives revolve around a sexually-motivated realization that
forever alters the life of a female protagonist. The Dutch Master,
however, is contemporary, and far funnier."

http://movie-reviews.colossus.net/movies/d/dutch.html

"The American actress Mira Sorvino graduated from Harvard University,
where she studied Chinese. She worked on numerous short films,
including The Dutch Master by Susan Seidelman, nominated for the Oscar
for best short film."

Hopefully another researcher will be able to help you.

Best regards,
Rainbow

Your description sounds uncannily like Stephen King's novel, "Rose
Madder". However, to the best of my knowledge, "Rose Madder" was
never made into a movie.

Can you recall any of the actors at all? Or something one of them may
have appeared in? It might be a useful clue.

Is it possible that this might have been an episode of a television
series, rather than a movie? It sounds like the sort of thing that
might have been on an anthology show such as "Thriller," "Night
Gallery" or "Tales from the Darkside." "Night Gallery" seems a
particularly likely possibility, since every episode began with a
painting that embodied some aspect of the story to come.
