I own a Sony desktop model PCV-RS410 (Intel Pentium 4 2.68 GHZ,
Windows XP, 504 mb ram). I played with the registry and crashed the
computer (and subsequently wouldn't load windows). I've since deleted
everything on the hard drives and reinstalled factory software using
factory
recovery discs. Computer works fine except after "hibernation." When
I press a key on the keyboard, it appears that the computer "wakes up"
(hard drive starts, power lights come on, etc.) however, the monitor
does not wake up. It's power indicator remains in "standby." I've
unplugged the monitor and plugged it back in. It appears to be
receiving a signal from the video card to "remain in standby." If I
completely shut off the computer and turn back on, the monitor works
fine. I'm guessing there is some error with the video card. Can you
help? Thanks.

It sounds as if your card is fine, i suspect your OS is telling your
monitor to stay in hibernation. I would attempt to hook up an
external monitor and see if the same thing happens. Also check for
video card driver and XP updates. This sounds like gremlins.

there is an update on the windows update website that fixes that problem.
it is best to download all the updates

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

lets assume that does not work... you can disable hybernation
