Dear hal1980-ga;

Great question! I actually became somewhat of a self-styled expert at
this topic, having a love for Bay Area beaches and an aversion of big
crowds.

Point Reyes National Seashore, a rather young 70,000-acre park 30
miles north of San Francisco is undoubtedly the absolute best place to
start.

I haven?t personally been to all of these places myself, but they
certainly sound like what you are looking for:

Heart's Desire Beach in Tomales Bay State Park

Bodega Head and Bodega Dunes

Goat Rock Beaches, at the mouth of the Russian River

Fort Ross Cove

Manchester Beach

On the other hand, I have been to these places many times and was very
pleased with the seclusion, vast expanse of beaches and variety of
seaside terrain:

HALF MOON BAY

Half Moon Bay has a very nice beach and is also convenient to
restaurants and some shopping too.

PESCADERO STATE BEACH

Pescaderao is by far my favorite. You can often walk on the beaches
for hours and never see a soul. If you like tidal pools and things
like that, this is a very cool beach. I?ve even stood on the beach and
watched the migrating whales breach. Binoculars would be handy to have
but occasionally you can see them (as well as sea lions and porpoise)
with the naked eye right from the beach.

Don?t miss the lunch at the Arcangeli Grocery and Deli either. (Don?t
believe the rumor mill. The Pescadero sourdough bread is just as good
as the San Francisco-style sourdough). Arcangeli?s an old time grocery
store that has been historically maintained all these years. It?s off
the beaten path and like stepping back in time to the early 1900?s.

I hope you find that my research exceeds your expectations. If you
have any questions about my research please post a clarification
request prior to rating the answer. Otherwise I welcome your rating
and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again
in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.

fwiw Sarasota is my favorite near Tampa Bay - big, scenic, cleaner
beach and water, almost empty of people, free parking, and nice
facilities.

Enjoy your day at the beach.
