I have a 14yr. old who has a problem with drugs, selfmutalization, and
has contimplated suicide on many occasions. She had been placed in a
residential learning facility but, her latest actions (contimplating
suicide) has caused her to be placed in a hospital in Bridgeport N.J.
temporarily. The facility where is was no longer wishes to treat my
daughter. Where do we go from here???
I Live in southern N.J. is there any other treatment facilities in my area???

Hello, chela336,
I don't want you to feel that your question is being ignored.
However, it is a hard one to research since cost and referrals are
important considerations in treatment options. Has the hospital
provided you with any referral options?
Are you willing to send your daughter for long-term treatment out of
state if necessary? Do you have financial resources? Are you looking
for a residential facility or a day facility? Please try to clarify
your parameters a bit more so that we can be of help.

Be very, very careful about sending your daughter to any residential
treatment center. Before making any decisions, please visit ISAC at
http://www.isaccorp.com/, which is a non-profit group dedicated to
exposing abusive behavior modification centers, drug treatment
programs, and mental health facilities. The website is run by
survivors of such facilities who now have teenagers of their own. Many
of these places are scams that prey on desperate parents. Residential
treatment centers may treat your daughter, but they will never love
her and a child raised without love is a miserable child indeed.
Another factor to bear in mind that something like 80% of High School
kids are using drugs or have used at one time or another, and not all
of them need a residential treatment center. Somehow they get through
it and straighten out to become (non-using) adults. If a child of mine
was self-mutilating and threatening suicide, the only place I would
want them to be is at home with me, where I can be there for them
24/7, give them a big hug and find some extra help locally through 4
times weekly counselling.
