I am doing some work for a bank and would like to find a current
online site or vendor that offers an online tutorial for customers to
use to help them balance their checkbook. We are looking for more
than paper forms or excel spreadsheets here, we want customers to be
able to learn how to balance and keep a check register on their own.
Hopefully the tutorial will be very in depth. Our associates could
use this as a tool in the bank with a client that comes in and sort-of
demo it for them with the intention of teaching them to use it
themselves. Hopefully people will be able to do their own check book
balancing and rely on customer service less. We would like to link a
website or program to our bank's website. I will need the ability to
demo the program and contact information of a vendor who offers this
software to give us a price quote. Please - no tutorials that are
based on Microsoft Money or Quicken. Good Luck!

Thanks for asking.

I've located a variety of stand-alone checking account/statement
reconciliation tutorials in several formats. I've also found two
software programs that might offer assistance to your customers.

AboutChecking.com
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

AboutChecking.com, a subsidiary of eFunds, offers a Flash tutorial
that shows the user how to write a check, make register entries,
endorse checks, fill out deposit slips, and read and balance bank
statements. Select the Start Here or Go To Training link to begin the
demo.

Checkbook Basics - Interactive Training

The Flash program could be emulated by your own or contract
programmers, or perhaps eFunds might license its use.

eFunds Corporation
Gainey Center II, # 300

Scottsdale, AZ 85253

The Beehive
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In Checking Account Basics, the Beehive demonstrates how to write a
check, and make entries in the check register. This is not a complete
tutorial, but might serve as an example for expanding a custom
application. Again, Flash is the programming medium.

The Money Instructor
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Requires free registration for access. Offers interactive Checking
Account lessons, specifically and interactive Checking Register Lesson
that may be adapted for demonstrations and home use.

Traditional "Do This" Tutorials
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a short list of the best of the tradition text-type tutorials
I've run across during this search.

The Mint - Using a Check Register

PageWise - Checkbook Balancing

Shareware Checkbook Programs
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The following programs are both stand-alone checkbook programs. I
downloaded and tried both, and am not overwhelmingly impressed with
either one, but both -do- offer instruction in tracking checks and
reconciling statements. They are fast shareware downloads, and install
easily in minutes. Both programs are Windows only.

With the author's permission, these limited use programs could likely
be burned to a CD and handed out for home demonstration.

I hope these tutorials are exactly the sort of information you're
looking for. If anything is unclear, or I can assist further, please,
feel free to ask.

I did some research on this, and I found the following two quick tutorials:

http://www.moneyinstructor.com/checks.asp

http://www.tutorials.com/04/0433/04332.asp

I didn't really find anything of the quality I was looking for (and
that I imagine you expect), perhaps utilizing Flash and providing
practice lessons. So, instead of continuing as an "answer", I'm
providing to you as a comment these sites I found.

Good luck, and maybe someone else will find that elusive high-quality
tutorial if it exists.
