I am trying to set up an internet radio station that only broadcasts about 20 hour a week, to about 50 people or more. I want to broadcast live. What is the cheapest way of doing this? |

Live365.com has the largest network of internet radio broadcasters. You might check them out. |

You may want to try, shoutcast, mpeg3 layer streaming, that is compatible with unix, and you can run it perfectly fine on Mac Os X, its free, and can be played, by itunes, winamp, real player, any mpeg3 streaming player. Go to www.shoutcast.com and download the mac os version server. Hope this helps Rembrandt |

Icecast also works really well for this sort of thing. Also, make sure you have enough bandwidth to support 50 people... 64kbps * 50 = 3.2mbits which is more than 2 T1 lines. And remember, this is your UPLOAD bandwith. Comcast internet is typically 3 mbit downstream, but upstream is still about 256kbit(enough for 4 people to listen @ 64kbit -- if you're lucky) |
