Try leaving your Thinkpad off for 24 Hours, take out the battery and
unplug it from the AC. Then try turning it back on. Something
similar happened to me and i had though i had destroyed the system,
but that fixed it.

I had a simmilar thinkpad and where the power plug goes into the
computer and there is a little prong that sitcks out. My prong broke
and in order to fix it you have to replace the motherboard, make sure
the prong didnt break.

I've got a 2621-442 (thinkpad 1400i) also.

Several users (including me) have a problem with the power connection.
The prong on the inside either breaks or loses connection to the motherboard.
Sometimes just fixing the connection can solve it....BUT.....to get to
it you have to take it completely apart....a task I'm still trying to
find documentation for.

Hi Elma,

You may have a few options:

If the machine is under warranty simply take it to a shop for a free repair.

No Warranty**
If no warranty then you have nothing to lose by taking the machine to
a technical person (who can solder) and try to see if there are any
obvious broken or loose electronic connections (and have them attempt
to fix the broken components using a soldering iron and some solder
from RadioShack -- they may also offer a repair)

** Try these alternatives also **
? Pull out the battery and try running the machine on the AC plug only.
? Pull out the AC plug and try running the machine on battery power only.
? With the plug in try bending it, looking for shorts in the cable.
? Verify that you use a scoket that has power by plugging in something else.
? Plug an external monitor into the back of the laptop and press the
external monitor function button FN+button that has monitor picture on
it (your monitor may have simply died!)
? Post a follow-up comment if you did anything else not mentioned in
your original post (like drop the machine or installed something new,
deleted files, etc.) -- this may change the proposed solution.
