I need a survey of all mantel manufacturers or importers of mantels 
now doing business in the US. This should include mantels in all
materials--wood, marble or granite or other stone, fibreglas
reinforced gypsum, fibreglas reinforced concrete, tile, metal, etc.  I
would like all pertinent contact data, including website if
applicable, and if possible, the yearly dollar volume of business.

fireplace mantel manufacturers or importers of mantels now doing
business in the US."

I realize that it would be humanly impossible to get them all, and

Hello - I've scoured some major directories, as well as individual search engine results to arrive at this manually-created list, since there doesn't seem to be a cental list anywhere (other than one which I'll talk about at the end). I'll venture to say that if the company is not in this list, then they're are very small and/or not concerned with being noticed. In general, these companies seem to be privately held, so sales data is not publicly available. Incidentally, though the commentator below yielded 29,000 links under the words "manufacturer" and "mantels", most of the links on that search result are not mantel manufacturers. I know (being in the business) that there are hundreds if not thousands of manufacturers and importers in the US. I was expecting a bit more. As a check, after I received your answer, I got on the web, and in just over half an hour, had a list of 120 mfgrs, most of whom are not on your list. I am a newcomer to your service, and don't know where to go from here--any suggestions?

Although there are some "importers" on this list -- retailers that are selling imported mantels -- the preponderance of what I'm finding is manufacturing companies. The clarification process should normally allow for researcher and customer to work out mutual agreement as to question scope before the research begins or shortly into it, but can also be negotiated further in as necessary. With regard to dollar volume, this will only be available for publicly traded companies who disclose their financial figures to the public. Since a good number of these companies seem to be smaller, private companies, dollar volume will unfortunately not be available. In general, results were good, though a critical part of the question
(dollar volume) was not addressed.  I know this kind of question could
eat up lots of time, and wish that there was some kind of provision in
the machinery to allow direct contact between researcher and client to
work out possible additions or extensions  to the research at issue. 
In this case, additional (deeper) research may be required, but there
