I have read that this expression comes from an old gas stove
advertisment. I would like to know the name of the company that
originally coined this phrase. Secondly, I would like to find an
original copy of some advertising material from this company featuring
this phrase that I could buy. Thanks

I remember hearing this slogan on the radio in the 1950s, when
electric ranges were starting to be very popular in the United States.
I think the slogan was promoting gas stoves in general, rather than a
particular brand of stoves. The sponsor was, I believe, a coalition of
natural gas producers.

"According to Wentworth & Flexner's _Dictionary of American Slang_
(1967), it is "Orig. swing use. Fairly well known in c1940, still some
use."

"Cooking with gas" meant perfect understanding. (_Time_, Jan 12, 1941)"

Thanks but not really. I know the definition, actually there are a few
different ones apparently, but what I want is a definitive answer as
to what company or organization came up with this slogan originally
and used it to promote their products. One site I read claims that
this originated in the 1800's and known commonly by the 1940's.

Can't find a link to the phrase in question, but the first
commercially successful gas stove was patented by James Sharp of
Northampton, England in 1826.
