How many domain names are registered on the Internet each month?
Subject: Re: Internet activity

Hi there,

Most recently, 5 million domain names are registered monthly (in 2003)
with 1.5 million in one month being the peak (October).

This data applies for all the .com and .net domains registered, and
was released by Verisign, which operates the .com and .net registries.
These two are the biggest extension and cover more than half the total
volume of the possible 250 extensions.

Please refer to the following article for more information:

Hi there,

I apologize for misinterpretting one of the lines in the article. The
most recent monthly registered figure is 425,000 (1.7 million in 4th
quarter of 2003) with peak still being 1.5 million in October.

The answer given is clearly wrong "Most recently, 5 million domain
names are registered monthly (in 2003)with 1.5 million in one month
being the peak (October)."

How can 5 million domain names be registered monthly with a peak of
1.5 million in one month? Peak means the highest value. How can you
average 5 with the highest value being 1.5?
