Hi salem-ga,

your question made me thirsty, but I did manage to resist the urge to
head to a pub and instead found you an answer.
Beer Travelers will come in handy for you. Most useful section is
Beer Travelers - Quick Picks From The Beer Lovers Guide To The USA,
from "The Beer Lovers Guide To The USA":
http://www.beertravelers.com/picks/
This is a regional breakdown of the country with explanations of the
best bars in all 50 states and should be just what the doctor ordered.
Included are links to discussion forums about each state and
reccommendations on local brews to seek out.
The rest of the Beer Travelers site also provides suggestions about
pubs that these experts particularly liked, so be sure to explore it
extensively.
"Historic taverns (and good beer)" by Daria Labinsky and Stan
Hieronymus, All About Beer magazine (September 1996).
http://www.allaboutbeer.com/beertravel/trips/historic.html
Although only a few different locations, these are pubs as brimming
with history as brews.
For regional guides to the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, and New England,
check out "Beer Travels - Brewstraveler.com" SchoolHouse
Communications (2001)
http://www.brewstraveler.com/traveler.htm
If you're still thirsty, check out "Best Bars Of America's guide to
the best bars in the USA":
http://barsofamerica.com/usa.html
"The Beer Lover's Guide To The USA" is the definitive guide:

Good luck with future searches, and have a great trip!

Hi salem,

I worked on this question for quite some time last night, and was
forced to stop working by the need for sleep. I had hoped to resume
work this morning, as I had gotten quite far, but I see that someone
else picked up the question.

I have a list, including locations and websites (where available) of
historic and/or famous bars/pubs/taverns for the following states:

Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
California
Colorado
Delaware
Florida
Illinois
Louisiana
Massachusetts
Michigan
Missouri
Nevada
New York
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
Washington
Wisconsin
Wyoming

If you would like this (incomplete) list, please let me know, and I
will post it here for you. If time permits during the next day or so,
I will see how many others I can locate for you, but I'm afraid the
majority of my attention must be on questions I'm working on actual
Answers for, so I don't know how many others I can dig up.

Hello salem-ga :

A little help from Florida.

The Green Parrot bar
“A Key West landmark since 1890, the Parrot is the first and last bar
on U.S.1. Home of great drinks and bad art, pool, darts, and pinball.
It's a one-of-a-kind open-air tropical saloon with spine-tingling
cocktails, friendly bartenders, and ice-cold beers, including
Newcastle Brown Ale, on tap.”
http://www.greenparrot.com/

Sloppy Joe’s

“Since 1933 Sloppy Joe’s hospitable staff has welcomed patrons daily.
Visiting the Internationally known bar, guests are instantly enveloped
by the history of Sloppy Joe’s, Key West and Ernest Hemingway.”
http://www.sloppyjoes.com/sloppys.htm

Tampa:
The Columbia Restaurant
” Visit the original Columbia Restaurant located in Tampa's historic
district of Ybor City. In addition to delicious entrees, this location
features nightly flamenco dance performances. The Cigar Bar Café,
named "America's Original Cigar Bar" by Cigar Aficionado, offers live
jazz Thursday through Saturday, exceptional tapas, spirits, and of
course, the finest cigars. “

Hope this helps.

Hi Salem-ga,

When in Arizona why not travel to Tombstone which is located 70 miles
south of Tucson. From Interstate 10, take Highway 80 south to
Tombstone.

Short Drives
http://www.prescottaz.com/vircity/daytrip/tombstn.htm
Two places to go are Big Nose Kate's and the Crystal Palace, which was
once called the Golden Eagle Brewery and whose claim to fame is above
the saloon the offices once included former Town Marshall Virgil Earp
of O.K. Corral fame.

A bit more:

Zagat Survey: By Popular Vote
Top Old New York
http://www.zagats.com/list/results.asp?LSID=5021&SBY=19&BRW=23&NDPH=Top+Old+NY&PG=1&PID=1&LID=14&VID=1

You might try Zagat for other cities as well. They generally have a
"Most Popular" category for each city, and while most of the places
listed are restaurants, they also have bars.
